The World

By Julia, 10, Courtice

Our world is our place to be,
The home for you and me,
We live in happiness,
We never want to miss,
The important things in our lives,
We can learn to drive and dive,
We play in the snow,
We grow and grow and grow,
Our world is meant to be in peace,
Always to release,
The criminals and slaves,
Who live in cells that look like caves,
The world is our place to be,
A place for you and you and me.

My Family

By Shu , 10, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I love everybody in my family,
Everybody and including me,
My Dad, my Mom and my younger Brother,
Together we are like a ball on fire!

The strongest of them all is Dad,
He is strict, yet kind and always cheerful,
He helps me and my brother with homework,
At work, he is the most hardworking of them all!

Our Mom is the best,
So, forget the rest!
Although she works,
She never gives up housework!

My Brother, Yu Wern, is the youngest,
Smart, cute and of course funny,
He lightens up me and my family,
My Brother is the coolest to me!

You have heard about my family,
What do you think of them please tell me!
Think about your family,
Be grateful to have them to fill you with glee!

Snow

By Wendy, 14, Bearsden, Glasgow, Scotland

There's white dots falling down,
Lying on the ground.
It looks so peaceful, there is no sound .
Just simple foot steps printed on the ground.
I hear kids all around.
Running and laughing, throwing snow around.
They make a snowman, big and tall, sadly it melts.
But there's more snow to come.

Africa

By James, 8, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK

Deep in the jungle by the windy trees,
There sat a monkey picking at his fleas,
There near the river by the muddy rock,
There slithered a snake spying a croc,
A gazelle running with frantic paws,
Trying to escape from lion's jaw,
Vultures circle, the air is still,
Looking down on a cheetah's kill,
Rhinos running with thunderous feet,
Across the land in the African heat.

Doors

By Olivia, 10, Ireland

The Door to a friend's house,
helps me remember the first
time I met her.
We played and played until
we were about to drop
off our feet.

The door to an adventure
fills me with excitement.
What will I find there?
Who will I meet?
Will I sit on a golden seat?

The draped door to the stage,
I dance foot-to-foot,
filled with excitement waiting
to go on and see the crowds
waiting.

I'm sorry to trouble you,
but I'm here to say
that every door is special
in it's own special way.

Funny Poem

By Sonali, 12, Kolkata, India

The maths they taught in college made me dizzy,
I even found the three times table hard,
While other kids looked thoughtful, smart and busy,
All I could do was stare out in the yard.

Geometry fair left me in a tangle,
I never learned a thing that I could use,
The isometric value of the angle?
I couldn't even say 'hypotenuse!'

In algebra, I sucked at logarithm,
I threw the text books out, they made me mad,
My only chance of passing went out with 'em,
Despite the fact the teacher was my Dad!

There's no way I could do triangulation,
I couldn't play a game that used a dice,
Square roots were always causing me frustration,
The only cubes I knew were made of ice!

I had a nemesis, its name: subtraction,
Division was anathema to me,
I couldn't multiply or work a fraction,
My best result in maths was minus E!

Deciding on my future as an actor,
I left the world of pi and sine and tan,
So what if I can't work a damn protractor -
I'll hire myself someone who bloody can!

My Old Oak Tree

By Alexandra, 10, Union, NJ, North America

My old oak tree,
Stood in front of my old house,
Branches large and plentiful,
Much bigger than a mouse.

My old oak tree,
Gave off helicopter seeds,
They stick to my nose,
And sometimes they make me sneeze.

My old oak tree,
Smells like leaves in the fall,
It turns ruby red,
It is sort of short and small.

My old oak tree,
I love it so,
But I do not live in that house anymore,
Still strong and beautiful, I am sure it will grow.

Time to Shine

By Amy, 9, Cardiff, Wales

You feel sad,
You feel bad,
You feel mad,
But it's your time to shine.

You feel silly,
You feel sick,
You feel nervous,
But it's your time to shine.

You are going to act,
In your school play,
Give it your best shot,
Because it's your time to shine.

You messed it up,
Don't worry,
Because it was your,
Time to Shine!

Pattern Dreamer

By Ashley, 14, Placerville,CA, USA

To the stars I am but dim,
For I do not shine as bright as they,
With excellent brilliance, ruling the night,
But hidden from curious eyes in day.

To be a star is, in every dream,
Even perhaps it may be thine,
To glow like an ember, guide the sky,
But I fear friend, that dream, is not mine.

I am not one, for a pattern,
Which is due to twist and decay,
Their vivacious sparkle will not last,
A devastation only tattered and frayed.

Instead dear friend, I will be the moon,
Forever seen, if you would only but find,
Unlike the stars, I am always steady,
And will remain long after their time.

The Weird and Wonderful

By kelly, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

Lots of things happen to me,
Weird and wonderful things,
I might as well just tell you now,
That your ears will go ping.

This poem, here, tells you about,
What has happened in my life,
The concentration,
The embarrassing moments,
The gossip of tonight.

Oh, how wonderful the weird things are,
But you will never guess,
My cousin here he has a twist,
He's wearing a pink frilly dress!

Lots of things happen to me,
But this one tops them all.
I have a tendency,
To climb up the wall!

I climb and climb,
Till the day is done,
Then I climb back down,
I say I'm sorry for doing that,
But my mother makes me run.

I have to run twice around the block,
Until my mother says,
Never do that again,
Because my heart's in a mess.

So there you go,
That's all my life,
Squeezed into one,
I have to say I've enjoyed today,
But now the day is done.

Who Am I?

By Chloe, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

I am darting towards the desert,
Waiting for the sunset to arrive,
My stripes are black and white,
And no-ones are the same,
I like to trot across the plain,
With my shiny black hooves,
I like to jump and play with my friends,
Until the special day ends,
I always say, 'What are we going to play?',
They always say, 'Wait and see!'
I love having friends like this,
Because we get on so well,
I really enjoy my life as a .....
ZEBRA!

Tree

By Matthew, 10, Rochford, Essex, UK

I live in the woods surrounded by nature,
I can feel the wind in my hair and the cold on my skin,
I drink from the ground through my feet,
And I am 127 years old and started from a seed,
I remember nothing but the nature around me,
I am afraid of chainsaws and axes, they scare me,
And I wish to live forever and watch time go by,
I can only overhear squirrels and their plans to look for nuts,
I don't understand why I was put on this earth but I think I know now,
I am hear to support all living things...
I am a tree!

The Beautiful Butterfly

By Kelly, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

I am the light of a caterpillar,
But I'm very small,
I smell blossoming flowers,
When I fly in the summer,
When I started out,
I raised my wings and started to fly,
My wings are as colourful as beautiful petals,
On a flower,
I don't understand,
Why people hold their fingers out,
Whenever I'm around,
So I land on them,
And turn their frowns upside down,
When I flap my wings,
I start to dance,
It's like I'm floating on thin ice,
Whenever I do it I feel so light,
My toes are pointed,
My head's up straight,
I feel like I'm bigger than I am.

This is My Body, The Rain

By Elizabeth, 10, Rochford, Essex, UK

This is my body, the rain,
My wet body,
Falls from the sky,
My puddles are made and water floats by,
My friends think it's cold but I think it's not,
This is my body the rain and the sky,
My misty body,
Naps in the clouds,
And when it's time I fall down to the ground,
The clouds have been waiting for droplets to gather,
This is my body, the rain and the sky.

Fireworks

By Louise, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

On the 5th of November I'm thrown into the sky,
I am being wowed and cheered at,
I burst into smoke,
To make colourful flames.

I don't like being a firework,
I wish I could be a bird,
I remember when I heard people saying they don't like me,
I don't understand why people don't like me,
I'm colourful, I'm powerful!
Once a man fired me and I killed him,
He was then dead.

I Am the Night

By Luke , 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

The night,
I am the night,
I wonder about the sun,
I hear a whistling,
I see the evil,
I want the light,
I am the night.

I pretend to chill,
I feel dark,
I touch the clouds,
I worry about the sun,
I cry with the owl,
I am the night.

I understand the evil,
I say destroy,
I dream freedom,
I try to survive,
I hope for peace,
I am the night.

I Am a Flower

By Jodie, 10, Rochford, Essex, UK

I'm sitting in the mud,
Looking all around,
Sitting in the sun,
Prancing round and round,
I hear the birds.
As they sing,
When I see....
The blue birdýs wing,
I wriggle and wiggle,
And squiggle and giggle,
Like an orange worm,
As I put on my rose pink coat.

I Am a Bath

By Joseph , 10, Rochford, Essex, UK

People wash themselves,
But never me!
I get so angry,
But I can never move,
Oh why can't I move,
Oh why,
Oh why,
Oh why can't I move.

I sit by a tap all day,
And people go past me,
My enemy is that horrible toilet,
It feels like it laughs at me all day,
People use him,
But never me,
Is this the end of people not liking me?
They use the shower,
Hour by hour,
But never me...
I am made by B&Q.

My Name is Bush

By Lewis, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

My name is Bush and I am a TV,
You would not be able to think of what I can see.
I have seen people progress through the school,
I am afraid I will fall off my stand.
It is as if I am a car on the edge of a cliff ready to fall.

I have seen people gleam at me,
They push my buttons and plug me in,
It gets a bit scary when they are looking at me,
I am looking forward to the years ahead.
