The Gushing River

By Lillie, 11, Stisted, Essex, UK

Tickling the swans the river rushed passed,
Eating the reeds like it's a race,
Wildly hammering against the river bed,
Spitting waterdroplets,
Rapids exploding in the air,
Kicking the river banks while sweeping past,
Waves sprinting,
Splash!
Crash!
Barging it's way into the locks,
Gushing, gushing, gushing!

The Haunted House

By Connie, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The dark gloomy house covered in vines,
Lived five little ghosts,
Who frolicked around,
The youngest one was Madaline.
Outside the trees ricochet,
As the house beckoned Madaline to
Come closer...

Madaline slowly crept into the mouth,
Of the gruesome, gray house,
He began to speak once again,
Get onto the top of my head and get,
Brushing my vines!
The house took a sneak peak at Madaline,
She was singing a spell.

And so, that was the end,
of the house,
for now,
Muhuhahahahaha!

The Fierce Sea

By Alex , 10, Nottighamshire, UK

The sea crashed,
And smashed,
Every ship he could see.

Until one.
He waited until the ship was above,
And then sent a mighty wave and
Smashed them to bits,
The bits of the ship
Ricochet off the harbor walls.

Planet Space

By Carter and Joe, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The black hole awoke,
He stretched his mouth with a mighty roar,
As he beckoned all the stars,
The black hole started to erode,
Is this the end...?

The sun says, 'Leave the stars alone and,
Pick on someone your own size,
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, leave my solar system and never come back!'

The Fantastic Tulip

By Megan & Katie, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The tulip slowly woke up from her
beautiful lovely dream,
she stretched her colourful,
bright petals.

Her shiny,brown eyes popped
out,while she was dancing in
the sunlight.

She stood still while a
cool breeze beckoned her
petals,amongst the other tulips.

The tulip slowly curled up into a
ball,she contemplated about her
fantastic,graceful dream.

For I Am The Leader Of The Sea

By Adam, Katie and Tempany, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

For I am the leader of the sea,
The quiet sea grabbed my feet
With hands of icy water.
The mellow sea dances on the golden sand,
It erodes the precious rocks away,
A boat appears in the distance.

The waves began to build up and boil,
Like a witches potion.
The frozen water beckoned in the boat,
As the waves frolicked against it.
The sea ricocheted along the sand,
With fangs like a feline,
Gnawing on the bones of the cliff.
The old, ancient boat's heart started to pound,
As the flag contemplated, while the wind,
Swept across the sky.

For I am the leader of the sea.

The Thoughtful Sea

By Zena , 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The calm gentle sea was acting like a guard,
To the small filthy smelly harbour.

One boat wanted access to the open world.

The horizon saw the boat exiting the
Harbour so the sea started to wave
It's magical arms like a fishes fins.

And the boat sank to a watery grave.

The Sea

By Lewis and Kyle, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The overflowing sea pounded the old crooked boat as it shattered over the icy water.

The ship heard a dark noise from down under the water that beckoned it to come closer.

The sea roared and scattered into little drops of water as the wind gust by, while the drops frolicked through the air.

The Sea

By Daniel and Chris, 10, Nottinghamshire, UK

The fierce sea crashed and smashed angrily against the eroding rocks.

The erupting waves were pounding powerful punches at the old rusty ship passing by.

As it sang a beautiful song.

The sea beckoned the ship towards it so it can smash another boat into pieces.

Night Time

By Andrea, 12, London, UK

The wind is whistling
The trees twisting round and round,
When the clock struck 12.

The river was running on the sea shore
The moon was smiling nice and bright,
When the clock struck 12.

The cars were roaring along the street
The lamps were looking down with their dim eyes,
When the clock struck 12.

The clouds in the sky looked sad and gloomy
The children screaming from shadows behind,
When the clock struck 12.

The wind

By Ashleigh, 10, Hamilton, New Zealand

I hear the wind
talking to me
whispering in my ear
Playing with my hair
I'm running
its behind me cheering me on
Then it pulls me back to play
It's angry chasing me
Blowing hard
Now it took my paper to see what I wrote
It's humming a tune
Then rips a tree out of the ground
It's angry again
I'm running for my life
I'm at home on my bed
It makes a storm
Blowing trees against my window
Yelling at me telling me to come outside
I refuse
It stops
Yay it's gone

Winter Personification

By Eloise, 10, Sawtry, UK

Rain stop crying,
You make the rest of the day miserable,
The wind is making the trees dance and wave,
The chimney tops are singing,
And the letter box is rattling,
You are so sad and unhappy,
Just go away and make the sun smile.

Something there outside my window

By Xiyin, 11, London, UK

Something there outside my window

I stare out of my window and something comes to my sight
A swirling, whirling, twirling something
It whispers to the vibrant trees, tugging at their limbs
It plays with the flowing hair of a beautiful, laughing lady
It surrounds a crying child and soothes it with a sweeping, barely-there touch
It lifts a bright, colourful kite and sends it spiralling up to the skies

I stare out of my window and something comes to my sight
A rushing, whooshing, roaring something
It screams at a struggling man, tearing at his clothes
It steals umbrellas and send them flying to the unknown
It howls outside a innocent young child's window, stirring up nightmares of the unimaginable
It rattles windows and doors, demanding to be let in

I stare out of my window and something comes to my sight
I search in the deepest corners of my brain and the answer comes to me
But how could something have two so different personalities?
How could something so sinister and menacing be so caring and gentle?
How can something you're enjoying over here, be something that is robbing peoplesý lives over there?
Something, this something, menacing something and gentle something goes by the name ...... wind

Scary poem

By Rebecca, 9, Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire, UK

The whirling wind howled
as it gave all the people fear in their eyes.
The haunted house hid behind the twirling tree,
As the swinging swings leapt backwords and forward.
The gleaming moon smiled at all the people,
as the cars ran around the village screaming.

Scary Poem

By Peter, 9, Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire, UK

The night crept in dark and silent as a thief
and the houses stood lifeless.
And still the clouds were black and stormy
as the full moon glowed eerily.

The twisted trees creaked
as the wind howled through them
as the clock struck midnight
an owl hooted mournfully.
A shadow appeared round the corner
and a ghostly figure drifted into view.

Haunted House

By Bobby, 10, Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire, UK

Haunted House
The door ran open as I walked towards it.
The floor boards creaked as I walked over them.
I was standing under a hanging dagger with blood
leaping from it.
There was a noise like someone being murdered.
I felt scared.

As I walked up the stairs,
the light sprinted from side to side .
My spine shivered as I heard a footstep.
I walked into the bedroom.
I could near the shower go drip, drip, drip
like blood dripping off someone.
I FELT SCARED!!!!!!!

Write a Scary Poem

By Luke, 11, Ravneshead, Nottinghamshire, UK

In the darkness of the night
the howling wind like 100 dogs sang.
The awful, angry apples on the trees;
thud, thud, thud, on the floor
The crackling but calm telephone wires
swung in the whistling wind.

I was scared.

In the grey tiring morning,
there was my mum sitting up yawning.
Then there was a horrifiying sound
then the world shook the ground.

I was scared.

In the lightness of the day,
my birthday present was on its way.
Then there was a big loud crash !!
Nobody knows what happend
but I know one thing

I WAS SCARED!!!!!!

The River

By Deckel, 9, Milton Keynes, UK

The river`s a snake,
hungry and keen,
The river`s strong
and always seen.

The river`s a stroller,
running down from the land
The river`s wild water
cloudy and blue

The river`s a stealer
it bounces pebbles
then gobbles them up;
then they`re never seen again

The Volcano

By Nathan, 10, Bedworth, UK

The volcano is like a vicious snake,
It sneaks when it decides to strike,
They lie where people hike,
When people grab his huge tail he strikes and kill at deaths first fighting site,

The boiling fire is the venom of the snake ,
All people who face it end up on a sharp stake!
Youýll die,
Quicker than a blink of an eye ,
And soon you`ll be in a coffin!

Personification

By Rachel, 11, Reading, England

The scratching of trees
As they claw at your window,
The racing of rain
When it falls at your feet.
The screaming of wind
As it wraps all around you,
The running of hope
When it's so far away.
The laughing of grief
When it fills up your head,
And the smirking of darkness
When you lay down...and sleep.

The Hungry Site

By Rebecca and Tino, 11, Sheffield, UK

As I see the JCBs slaughter the petrified bricks like a famished tiger,
The glistening windows gossip away like two old ladies,
The shabby skip torments the containers like the cat does to the mice,
The triangular roof whinged about the rain it always wants the sun the rain is such a pain,
The doors open to let you in so that they can eat you today and again,
The sloppy mud sucks you in like quicksand!!!!!!

The Cemetery

By Saif, 10, Cairo, Egypt

I'm alone in the dark deadly Cemetery at midnight
Not a glance of sound
just the trees as they go swish and swoosh
The ghostly clouds the moon
Suddenly appears
The wild werewolf howling seriosly and loudly at the full moon
Dracula sucking dead body's neck sticking his pointy teeth inside and pulling out the runny veins
The ugly grandpa frankenstein clumped and stumped causing a vibrating earthquake
The skeleton of a pirate dripping blood and holding a pointy sword, his bones go clack and crack
They are coming closer clack crack stump and I'm alone
heeelp!!!

Misterious Graveyard

By William, 11, Cairo, Egypt

I crept in the darkand gloomy grave yard like a ghost.
I thought to myself it was darker then a mine shaft.
My heart was beating like a drum.
The tree stood a wicked wrinkled old lady,
The branches where scratching on the wall as if it were a boy scratching on the black board.
The wind was blowing the leaves as if someone was kicking them.
An owl perched on a branch with a knowing look of a school teacher.
The moon crept from behind the cloud as if someone had turned the light on.
Now everything looked real again.
The relief washed over me like a ocean wave.

Gruesome angel

By Amina, 11, Cairo, Egypt

I saw the gruesome angel pass by,
To the haunted house near the grave yard,
Suddenly the zombies woke!
With their petrified faces,
Oh how the angel screamed,
And how the ange hollered,
Although the angel was gruesome,
He took out his sword and stretched the dead veins
The gruesome angel saw me and said…
I am here to get you!
You can run but you can't hide!

Scary Personification Poem

By Roshni, 14, Vienna, Virginia, USA

What the dead house says

As the dead house saw my shadow,
I heard the whisper of the wind.
It came knocking on the windows,
And said to me “Ah let me in.”
The great thunder roared with anger,
The deep gray sea howled,
It said, “There is something haunted.”
The wind blew the window open,
A mummy came out of the ground,
And told me to beware, because
I’m in for a scare!!!

I am dying

By Zainab, 12, Teaneck, New Jersey, USA

Darkness chases me away like a cheetah
Blood dripping down my face like the water at the Niagara Falls

Jumping into the sea is like jumping into porcupine needles
The water pulls me like a dog dragging me outside

The shadows of the trees were like eagles swooping down its prey

Tall trees surrounded me like millions of soldiers trying to kill me
The wind made me deaf so I couldn’t hear what they were saying

An arrow came out of nowhere
Pinned a beast to the ground like a dog does when it sees its owner

The drops of blood were innumerable
It pulled me to the ground like a bull

I am dying
I am scared

I felt scared and scared is frightening and that’s how I am

Scary Poems

By Andrew, 10, Belfast, Northern Ireland

The fire was chuckling loudly
And made all the water shiver
It came to me and gave me a touch
And my skin started crying
And I felt scared.

I fell to the ground
The fire laughed hard
And left the house with a smirk
And I felt scared.

Everything is in pain
The couch, the curtains, the stairs.
The fire had laughed once again
And I felt scared.

The fire came into my room again
Huffing and puffing louder than ever
But I was not harmed, except for my burns
And I felt SCARED!

Scary Poems

By Adam, 10, Belfast, Northen Ireland

The seawater that night bashed against my window.
The wind howled and growled.
The deserted house beside us collapsed thanks to the merciless waves and the poisoned sea drowned the deserted graveyard.
And I felt sacred.

The next night a cunning storm appeared.
It thoughtlessly rained heavily over the town as the blinding wind screamed through the window.
And I felt scared.

That next night I walked up the stairs.
I went in to my room and lay down.
A strong wind sucking up any thing or man alive stirred outside.
It howled and beckoned me to come outside.
A line of lightning glowing bright shot out of the sky.
It hit a house and started to laugh when it went up in flames.
And I felt scared.

the merciless waves crash against the rocks,
The wind howling like a hungry wolf,
The cliffs silhouetted against the sky,
And I felt scared.

In the darkness of the forest the fire was cackling evilly,
The pines were weeping pitifully,
And I felt scared.

In the merciless prison,
The angry bars play a tune in the wind,
The anxious escape rope hidden in the long, long grass,
And I felt scared!

The castle tower creaks thoughtlessly
It falls
And I felt scared

Scary Poems

In this room I am alone and I can hear the evil laughter and chuckle of the wind,
I can sense the pain and torture of the prison cell
And I felt scared.

I run into an alley and I can hear the drips of water
And I felt scared.

I run past the old tower the statues, they growl and chase me down
They stab me, and I am dying.

Scary Poems

By Matthew, 10, Belfast, Northern Ireland

The thunder is squealing a very high note,
The tower rocked like a small boat,
The fire roared at the top of its throat,
And I felt scared.

The sea howled and stamped against the shore,
The trees scrambled and I wanted no more,
But the trees pushed me against the wet, muddy floor,
And I felt SCARED.

The radiator went red and was as hot as hell,
You could hear the graveyard shout and yell,
Even louder than the dark, gloomy church bell,
And I FELT SCARED.

I nearly said that I was dead when I heard the tap shout,
Its croaky voice made me sure there was a drought,
Still the ruler yelled as if someone gave it a nasty clout,
AND I FELT SCARED!

But no one came,
And I was scared!

The cunning wind is now thirsty,

Scary Poem

By Ella, 11, Nottingham, UK

The sun crept cautiously behind the fluffy frightened white clouds.
The terrifying trees grabbed me like rotten robbers.
The moon looked down on me like a wicked witch from the west.
And I felt as scared as a zebra being pulled under water by a hungry crocodile.

The wind cried like a new born baby howling in the cold dark night.
The snowflake danced in the glistening moonlight like a spiceflake.
The rainbow winked at me like a rock star.
And I felt as scared as a robber being spied on by strange creatures. September 2002
