Chapter Five
Race for the Cup

"Yes, we meet again, and for the last time," said Pinash with a smirk across his face. "Pretty soon I will win the Rose Cup for the best robot the Universe has ever seen! And you, well we don't have much to say about you. You just have to realise that we make much better robots than you or anyone on your planet could ever make."

"How dare you talk about my planet that way!" growled Scumball angrily.

With that he pushed Pinash over. He fell so hard that he knocked into one of Scumball's robots. It hit the floor with an enormous smash, making the whole planet shake as it smashed the against the floor.

"You idiot! Look what you have done!" screeched Scumball. "I'll smash you like you smashed my robot, you clumsy pink pains!"

Scumball spun round to see the last of the Pinkerellians disappearing into the long grass.

Sometime later a panting Daisy, a bunch of puffing Pinkerellians and a wheezing Roman guard collapsed in a big heap.

"Quiet everyone. I can't tell if they're after us with all this noise!" ordered Captain Pinash. "Okay, relax, it seems to be all clear."

"Well that's alright then," sighed Plink.

"Alright! Alright!" wailed Pazaz. "How can we be alright? We have just crash landed, again, on a strange planet, only to find the evil pirate Scumball, who now wants to smash us up! Please tell me how that is alright?"

"I only meant I was pleased to be away from Scumball," mumbled Plink.

"Oh I am so glad one of us is pleased to be stuck in the middle of nowhere!" yelled Pazaz, getting more and more upset.

"Calm down Pazaz. It's not Plink's fault we're here," Captain Panash tried to reason. "It's no good getting all upset. What we need now are ideas to get us out of this mess. Come on Pazaz, you're our Chief of Ideas, we're relying on you."

Pazaz took a deep breath, "Okay, sorry Plink."

The four Pinkerellians stood very still on one leg and thought. Daisy sat down with her chin rested in her hand and thought. The Roman guard copied the Pinkerellians and fell over! So he too sat down.

Some time passed. Every now and then someone would say something like, "what about … no that wouldn't work" or "how about … no that's no good". Finally Proddle spoke.

"I think I might be able to get our ship going again. We would still need the Timestopper and the only thing that seemed really damaged was the TRAMS, that will need replacing. If we could get one." Puzzled Proddle.

"What on earth is a TRAM?" asked Pazaz.

"A TRAMS," corrected Proddle, "is a Turbo Rotational Acceleration and Maneoverabilty System. They're quite easy to fit actually."

"Do you think we could get a Timestopper and a TRAMS from Scumballs spaceship? Would they work?" asked Daisy.

"If he has them they should work in our ship."

"Right then I have an idea," said Pazaz, Chief of Ideas.

After lots of explaining they all decided Pazaz's plan was a good one. They synchronised their watches and split up to get into position. Plink and the Roman Guard lit a fire, making sure Scumball and his croanies spotted it. While Scumball was away from his ship Captain Panash and Pazaz dealt with the robot guards swiftly. Daisy and Proddle searched for the Timestopper and the TRAMS.

Before long they were on to stage 2. Daisy and Proddle found what they needed and went to fix the Pinkerellian spacecraft. Pinash and Pazaz helped Plink and the Roman guard keep Scumball and his gang busy.

"Here goes nothing," said Proddle as he took the controls. Daisy sat with her fingers crossed, hardly daring to breath.

Suddenly the engine burst into life. Before they knew it they were hovering above the ground. "All systems functioning normally," reported the ships computer.

"Hurray!" yelled Daisy, "let's get the others."

The Pinkerellian spaceship zoomed to the thinking place just as the others got there. They all scrambled aboard and set off home before Scumball had a chance to stop them.

"Look," cried Plink, "we're home."

They all peered with relief at the pink planet through the ship's windows. As they got closer Daisy thought she had never seen so many types of pink.

Proddle safely landed their spacecraft in the exhibition centre's car park. They sprinted inside, just in time to enter Daisy and the Roman in the Rose Cup competition.

The judges walked around the grand hall, scribbling notes as they watched the demonstrations. Finally it was time to announce the winner.

"The winning entry for this year's Rose Cup," boomed the loud speaker, "is Daisy. Congratulations."

Captain Pinash strode to the front to collect the Cup.

"Thank you very much everybody. Finding this invention has been an adventure and receiving this prize is an incredible honour and a great pleasure. It would also give my crew and I great pleasure if Daisy agreed to stay here on Pinkerello with us. Will you Daisy?"

"Yes, of course!"

Daisy was sure life would be much more fun with the Pinkerellians! First, they would need to take the Roman guard home....
